About

A tree shown from root to canopy, its roots and branches joined by soft glowing threads, with the branches resembling neural pathways.

“Understand yourself from the roots up.”

The Plants Talk is a place to look at the mind, the brain and the long story behind us, and to see where plant medicines fit into it. It is built for people who want to understand themselves more deeply, without hype and without jargon for its own sake.

What The Plants Talk is

The Plants Talk brings psychology, neuroscience, evolution and plant medicines into one connected picture. Each looks at the same question from a different angle: why we are the way we are, and what we can understand about it.

It is about self-awareness: understanding our triggers, our history and the patterns that shape us. Everything here is written to inform and to start a conversation, not to tell you what to do. We hold space for you to explore for yourself, because no one knows you better than you.

How the site is organised

There are four main parts, and they feed into each other.

  • Mind: Psychology and psychoanalysis. How we think, feel and repeat patterns.
  • Brain: Neuroscience and biology. What is happening underneath the surface.
  • Roots: Where we come from, and how it shapes who we are.
  • Plants: Plant medicines and the research behind them, told without hype and for educational purposes.

Start wherever you like. Each page points to the others.

Why this exists

After years in high-pressure corporate roles I burned out, and a sudden head injury in Manaus, a city in the Brazilian Amazon, put me in hospital. I remember waking up not knowing what had happened. It was a rude awakening, and it forced me to look at the patterns running my life: years of chasing money and relationships, jobs that left me empty, and being trained to bury what I felt. I decided to start putting the puzzle together, going deeper into the mind and psychology and drawing on biology and neuroscience. Plant medicines played a role throughout that journey.

The Plants Talk exists because I found that these areas, the mind, the brain, our evolutionary roots and plants, deepened my understanding of what was affecting me. It was never one area on its own, but the wider connected picture: the mind cannot exist without the brain, the brain cannot exist without evolution, and we often overlook the profound impact nature has on us.

Who’s behind this

I am Dev, and this is Aya, my dog, who has been beside me throughout this phase of my life.

What we stand for

  • Mission: to make honest information about plant medicines, and fairly priced support, accessible to more people.
  • Vision: a world where people treat each other, animals and nature with more care and respect. Pacha Mama (Mother Earth) gives us so much; the least we can do is treat her with care.
  • Values: Fairness and transparency are crucial to us: our prices are fair, proportionate and reasonable, and never about excessive profit margins.

What else is here

Beyond the articles and videos, there are other ways to go deeper.

  • Retreats: time away from routine to explore these ideas in person, through plant medicine retreats with partners, held only where this is legal or permitted. Get in touch to find out more.
  • 1-2-1 sessions: private one-to-one sessions covering a range of topics, with talk support. Get in touch to find out more.
  • Prepare & Integrate: support before and after a plant medicine experience, so it is approached with care and made sense of afterwards.
  • Shop: merchandise from The Plants Talk.

Legal status and safety

Plant medicines are covered here for educational purposes, as a subject of research and history. Where the evidence is early, mixed or contested, we say so.
